Jerry is a lifelong resident, and graduated from the Riverton High School. He was a member of the first graduating class of the Missouri Southern Police Academy in Joplin, MO. He had served as an officer for the Joplin Police Dept., and the Baxter Springs Police Dept., and for the Security Dept for St. John's Regional Medical Center. He was also an auctioneer, and bought and sold guns, knives and jewelry. He was also very active in the family K-12 Meat business which was well know in the area. Jerry loved to play the guitar.

Her grandparents were one of the first families to homestead in Butler County. She was a member of the Douglass Church of Christ. Preceded in death by brothers, Clarence, Harold, Melvin DeFore.
