6- 26- 1941 2-20, 2005 b Indianapolis, IN, d. at the VA Hospital in Topeka, S/O Norman and Betty Grider Fontes. Mr. Fontes served 20 years in the US Army in Korea, twice in Vietnam, and in Germany before retiring in 1979. He served as a volunteer at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Hospital in Topeka for many years. He was a member of Topeka North Post #400 American Legion, Philip Billard Post #1650 VFW, Chapter 3 DAV, Golden Rule Lodge #90 AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Arab Shrine, where he was a member of the Legion of Honor. He married Annita Pollin on Oct. 27, 1962 in Germany. She survives. Cremation is planned

Jacka, Donald LaFawn
7-21-1919 8-23-2004 b. Fairmont Ks Riley co, d. Leavenworth ks leavenworth co, LCDR USN Retired. S/O Edward L. and Mae Mercedes (Elder) Jacka. Don graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1937, attended University of Kansas on football scholarship for two years and received his BS in education from Emporia State University in 1946. Don received his MS in Education from Emporia State University in 1963. On Dec. 26, 1941 he married Loretta M. Maloney in Kansas City, KS. She preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 1998. Mr. Jacka enlisted in the US Navy in 1941 and was commissioned a Naval Aviator in 1942. He flew in the Pacific Theater during WWII and flew Patrol bombers during the Korean War. A highly decorated Naval Officer, Commander Jacka in 1953, commissioned the Naval Air Station in Fallon, NV. After various oversea duty stations he retired from the US Navy in 1962 completing his tour of duty in Morocco. After Military retirement Don moved his family to Leavenworth, where he taught at Muncie Elementary School, from 1962 to 1967, following which he became Vice Principal of Leavenworth High School. From 1970 to 1980 he served as Principal of Leavenworth High School. He was a lifetime member of Emporia State University Alumni Association Century Club and The Endowment Athletic Hornet Club. He was a past president of Leavenworth Noon Lions, past president of Leavenworth City Teachers, member of Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity, Phi Delta Theta Professional Fraternity, Leavenworth Retired Teachers Association and Retired Officer's Association. He was a member of the Henri Lodge 190 AFMA Tonganoxie, KS, Scottish Rite Southern Bodies 32nd Degree Ft. Leavenworth, KS and a member of the Abdallah Shrine. Burial with military honors.

McIntrye, Max L. 4-18-1939 12-8-2005 b. Ashland ks Clark co, d. Raytown MO Jackson co, The only child of Maurice and Thelma McIntyre of Coldwater, KS. Max Graduated from Fort Hays State College in 1961, with a B.A. in History. He Married Marcia Brann in Hays, KS, on June 3, 1961. He joined the Air Force in 1963 and left as a Major in 1977. His military career never really ended though as he worked as a civil servant for the Marine Corps for another 19 years. His Volunteer efforts included the Raytown Emergency Assistance Program (R.E.A.P.), Raytown recycling, and The Gaprecycling. Max was preceded in Death by his parents, 7 uncles, 2 aunts, and 2 cousins.
