After high school, she attended Kansas State University and graduated from Newman Memorial School of Nursing, Emporia, KS with her R.N. degree. At the start of WWII, she was hired as one of the first two school nurses for the Planeview schools. She was there until Planeview was taken into the Wichita School System. She worked as a school nurse in the Wichita Schools until her retirement, with over 30 years of service. She married Chester Chambers in 1971.
