About the Project: The Oklahoma Tombstone Photo Project was started in January of 2001. The goal of the project is to have a readable photograph of every headstone in every Oklahoma cemetery to compliment the tombstone transcription project. Cherokee County was the first county to have tombstone images placed online as a part of this project. View an example of how the project will look online when images are submitted to the archives.
Step 1:View the Guidelines for the Archives and
agree with the guidelines for the archives file submissions.
Step 2: Email me,
Rebecca
Maloney,
the name of the cemetery you would like to survey. Please include the county in which it
is located many cemeteries have the same names in different counties. Please let me know
if this is one or two images or if you submitting the entire cemetery.
Know the City but need the name of the cemeteries: Use this Search Engine from GNIS
Step 3: Format
the images. Please use the soundex plus 0001, and then 0002, etc. for the file name of the
image. (Example: Photo of Joe Walker's headstone would be saved as w4260001.jpg. Photo of
Sue Walker's headstone would be saved as w4260002.jpg) Soundex
Converter All images must be jpeg files (extension .jpg). All
files must be less than 50K per image. Preferred image size: approximately 500 x 300. Step

Rebecca
Maloney, the images &

Let's
work together in this endeavor! To register a cemetery, just send a message telling me the name of the cemetery, the county and state where the cemetery is located and the names of the people who will be doing the transcribing. If you have already transcribed cemetery data and would like for your work to become part of this project, just let me know. Oklahoma Tombstone
