a.k.a. Concord Baptist Church Cemetery

a.k.a. New Concord Cemetery

Monument on this site made by Gibson (or Gipson) Funeral Home reads as follows :

Concord Cemetery maintained by donations.

In creating Lake Sam Rayburn the US Corps of Engineers relocated the following cemeteries to this site in 1959-1960.

DEARMOND
HENSARLING
McGILBERRY
MOTT-HOPSON
PARKER-MARSHALL
SINCLAIR
UNKNOWN-SMITH SECTION

Other cemeteries were moved to existing cemeteries.

This sign is a memorial to William R. "Hop" Hopson 1906-1993.

It should also be noted that the Dearmond Cemetery was never a part of this community. It was located on the upper end of the lake. A "Mott" lady from this area married a "Dearmond" and they didn't know where to put them , so they were brought here. It is believed that only 3 Dearmond graves were moved here to the Mott section of the cemetery , not into the Hensarling section as first believed.

Location & Directions: located 5 miles SE of Zavalla, TX on Hwy.63. (can't miss it .. big cemetery on left)

I apologize if any marker or name has been misprinted or left out. Many are now sinking into the soft, muddy soil and are covered by grass, not easily spotted unless you happen to stub your toe on some of them. There are also MANY small flat marker stones and at times it is hard to determine if this is for someone who has already been buried or if it is to mark a future tombstone.
