Ada Baker, 85, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Southwest Medical Center. She was born April 11, 1919, to Charles and Zenith (Morris) Polf in Optima, Okla. She married Ralph A. Baker Sept. 11, 1954, in Raton, N.M. He survives. She was a 1939 graduate of Turpin (Okla.) High School. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Western Avenue Church of Christ in Liberal. Other survivors include one daughter, Theda Kaelin and husband Bill, Anaheim, Calif.; two grandchildren, Aaron and Mark Kaelin; and one sister, Clemmie Monden, Amarillo, Texas. She was preceded in death by one son, Leon Grinsdale, five brothers, Zelner, Lee, Eddie, Andrew and Herndon Polf, and two sisters, Lucille Weatherby and Joyce Szuwalski. * Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Western Avenue Church of Christ with Wade Tannehill presiding. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery.

E.H. "Pedro" Bell, 72, died Saturday, April 30, 2005, at his home in Liberal. He was born Jan. 6, 1933, to John and Rosa Taylor Bell at Pawnee, Okla. He married Janice Banister on Jan. 24, 1958, in Hugoton. She survives. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. He worked in the pipeline industry until he retired in 1998. His hobbies included fishing and dancing. Other survivors include four sons, Chigger Bell, Liberal, Max Bell, DeBerque, Colo., Patrick Bell, Tyrone, Okla., and Chris Bell, Tucson, Okla.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Shirley Combest. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Mike; and two sisters, Ruthie Edwards and Bet Gentry. * Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Chapel. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

He was a salesman in the oil field, having worked for Orbit Tool and Supply Inc. starting in 1972, and later becoming the owner and operator of the company until 1992. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 50 years and a member of the Donut Shop Coffee Club.  He was preceded in death by five brothers, five sisters and one daughter-in-law, Mimi Berens.

She and her family moved to Liberal in 1959 where they operated Carlson Paint and Wallpaper Store for many years. She taught tole painting classes there.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Christian Women's Fellowship and served as deaconess and on the First Christian Church Board. She was also active in the Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary and Hobby Club. She and Roy were long-time members of the Do-Si-Do Square Dance Club.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one son, Rodney Carlson.

He married Maria Florentina Hernandez July 4, 1939, in Durango City, Mexico. She survives. He was a farmer. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and Western Avenue Church of Christ in Liberal. Other survivors include nine sons, Felipe Covarrubias, Fort Worth, Texas, Andres Covarrubias, Deming, N.M., Juan Covarrubias, San Jose, Calif., Roberto Covarrubias, San Jose, Calif., Antonio Covarrubias, Texas City, Texas, Jorge Covarrubias Sr., Adams, Okla., Victor Covarrubias Sr., Liberal, Jesus Covarrubias, Fort Worth, Texas, and Armando Covarrubias, Liberal; three daughters, Velia Rodriguez, El Paso, Texas, Amparo Chavira, Liberal, and Lilia Lomas, Liberal; 50 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his great granddaughter Liana Marie Orozco. * Funeral mass will be at 5 p.m. Thursday in Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel with Father Patrick A. Keyes presiding. Burial will be 1 p.m. in Restlawn Cemetery.

Andres Santa Cruz, 74, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born Nov. 12, 1931, to Antonio Cuyun and Marcelina (Garcia) Santa Cruz in Guatemala City. He married Felisa Hernandez Sept. 3, 1966, in Guatemala City. She survives. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal. Other survivors include one daughter, Yolanda Zavala, Liberal; three grandchildren, Christopher, Shantel and Emily Zavala; two brothers, Miguel Angel Santa Cruz and Alejandro Santa Cruz, both of Guatemala; and two sisters, Paulina Santa Cruz and Maria Santa Cruz, both of Guatemala. He was preceded in death by his parents. * Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today with funeral mass at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal with Father Mike McAndrew presiding. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters and one great-grandson.
