Florence E. McCurry, 85, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at her residence in Liberal. She was born Nov. 3, 1919, to Alexander and Mary (Patton) Whitman in Luray. She married Jay W. McCurry Aug. 1, 1940, in Emporia. He died March 15, 1985. She graduated from high school in 1938 at Paradise. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 25 years and was a member of several bridge clubs. She was a charter member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included bridge. Survivors include three daughters, Jackie Zimmerman, Longmont, Colo., Marry Holterman, Amarillo, Texas, and Connie Slemp and husband Larry, Hugoton; eight grandchildren, Sherah McCurry, Angie Drouhard, Todd Vanley, Tera Piper, Tiffany Brady, Brad Slemp, Jason Slemp and Mike Slemp; one brother, Elbert "Spud" Whitman and wife Beth, Paradise; and two sisters-in-law, Naomi Spencer, Kansas City, and Jackie Riddlesperger, Harrison, Ark. She was preceded in death by one son, Gary W. McCurry; three brothers, Henry, Charles and Fritz Whitman, and one sister, Opal Cronn. * Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry Odle presiding. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery in Liberal.

Donna L. Michaelis, 64, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal. She was born Oct. 27, 1940, to Earl Eston and Bridget Marie (Zorn) Pittser in Dorrance. She married Donald Michaelis Jan. 10, 1960, in Hays. He survives. She was a 1959 graduate of Bunker Hill High School. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and a Sunday school teacher. Her hobbies included bowling and fishing. Other survivors include four daughters, Dinah Plummer and husband Jim, Dianna Norton and husband John, and Dora Dye and husband Shawn, all of Liberal, and Deanna Dye and husband Shane of Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; one brother, Lonnie Pittser and wife Mary, Liberal; and one sister, Ronna Duerson, Turpin, Okla. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother-in-law, Jim Duerson. * Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home of Liberal. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Liberal.

Marjorie E. Ratzlaff, 78, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at the Liberal Good Samaritan Center. She was born Oct. 17, 1926, to Harold S. and Edith C Elliot Hightower in Liberal. She married John H. Ratzlaff June 8, 1945, in Liberal. He died Aug. 14, 1995. She graduated from Liberal High School in 1945. She had worked at Surplus Outlet and Spud Nut Shop and cared for many children in her home for 15 years, retiring in 1995. Survivors include four sons, Larry Ratzlaff and wife Melody, John Ratzlaff, Arlo Ratzlaff and wife Suzan, all of Liberal, and Randy Ratzlaff and wife Heather, Pampa, Texas; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Hightower, Killeen, Texas; and two sisters, Eva Heston, Gering, Neb., and Margaret Goos, Corpus Christi, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Dorothy Brier; and one son, Richard Ratzlaff. * Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Randy Cook presiding. Burial will be in the Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

El Fleta J. Rogers, 74, died Friday, July 15, 2005, at her home. She was born Jan. 17, 1931, to Vere DeVere and Dora E. Rice Furnish in Taloga, Okla. She married Odell F. Rogers Dec. 22, 1949, in Amarillo, Texas. He died April 4, 2003. She attended school in Taloga, Okla. She worked at the Hitch Ranch in Guymon, Okla., and as an Avon representative for many years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Lane Day Post No. 3166 in Liberal. Survivors include five sons, Sandy Rogers and wife Catherine, Evanston, Wyo., Jerry Rogers, Liberal, Dennis Rogers, Liberal, Kevin Rogers and wife Shawna, Hermet, Calif., and Chris Rogers and wife Julie, Hermet, Calif.; two daughters, Dorinda Griblin, Liberal, and Kimberly Lozar and husband Kenneth, Ulysses; 25 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, O.C. "Cotton" Furnish and wife June, Guymon, Okla.; and one sister, Betty Gentry, Guymon, Okla. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Monte and Stephen Rogers; one brother, Gerald "Giggs" Furnish; and two sisters, Geneva Loman and Helen Koehn. * Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Miller Chapel with the Rev. David Bagwell presiding. Burial will be in the Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
